As is the case with most cities brimming with students, young IT workforce and artists, Bengaluru too has found its own unique ways to keep its increasing, energetic population entertained. The stand-up comedy scene is Bengaluru is increasingly diversifying and becoming inclusive and a safe space for anyone who just needs to let loose and relax, maybe take a break from the everyday stress that this city runs on.

A decade, or even half a decade ago, this platform would have been virtually unimaginable, however open mics have served as a stage for many talents to be monetized, that were previously viewed as high on entertainment value, but low on income. Recently, open mics have proven to launch many comedians’ careers. Household names like Kannan Gill, Naveen Richard and Kenny Sebastian have their comedic roots in the garden city of India.

While pub culture has predominantly taken over the weekends, laid back, satirical, stand up comedy has proven to be an effective way to bring patrons in during the weeknights.  It is becoming a niche people are increasingly actively engaging in. although it may seem like stand up comedy is at its peak right now, it will continue to grow because it clearly caters to consumers’ needs for a relaxed conversation that soothes the daily stress of life and gives off personal vibes while still catering to a variety to people.
